Musical Offerings

Join us for some of the most popular events on the annual Festival schedule, our special Festival period concerts. Each offers a rare chance to experience period music in intimate historic settings with entertaining and educational interpretations. Seating is limited, so early reservations are encouraged.

Beethoven on Church Street

1822 marks not only the construction of the current First Baptist Church building, but also the time in which Ludwig van Beethoven was at work on his miraculous Ninth Symphony, written in total deafness. Please join us for this classical music concert featuring chamber works by this important and enigmatic genius.

 

Athens Recorder Ensemble

Set amid the beauty of the intimate and historic setting of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, the Athens Recorder Ensemble will present a sampling of musical genres through the ages. Pieces have been selected to appeal to a wide variety of interests and will feature music from the Renaissance, Baroque and Modern periods. Kevin Kelly of the Hugh Hodgson School of Music will set the stage by offering a brief historical commentary of the music provided by the six-period ensemble.
