Preservation Advocacy
Historic Charleston Foundation staff members routinely attend all key meetings of the city's planning boards, speaking out as an advocate for preservation. These public meetings include the City of Charleston's Board of Architectural Review, Board of Zoning Appeals, Planning and Zoning Commission, and City Council. HCF staff not only makes known the Foundation's positions on issues before these boards, but also frequently offers technical advice and expertise.

Learn more about Charleston's Board of Architectural Review. For a thorough discussion about Historic Charleston Foundation's preservation efforts since its founding, see Historic Preservation for a Living City, which chronicles the history of HCF and preservation in Charleston. For agendas and information about public meetings held by the City of Charleston, visit their website.

Through its public advocacy program, HCF has helped preserve many threatened historic structures in the Charleston and its surrounding area.
