Position Summary

The Ticket Office Representative handles ticket sales over the phone and in person; provides customer service for patrons of The Charleston Festival, visitors to HCF’s museum houses and retail locations; reconciles daily ticket sales; utilizes a software program to transact business; interacts with the public, HCF staff members and volunteers.

Essential Job Functions

  • Ability to work and communicate effectively and courteously with the public from many diverse educational, socio-economic and/or cultural backgrounds as well as professional co-workers.
  • Ability to multitask, fulfill responsibilities, meet deadlines and shift priorities appropriately while maintaining composure and professional demeanor.
  • Ability to process orders with strict attention to detail and in accordance with sales policies and procedures.
  • Ability to use basic computational and financial skills sufficient to conduct reconciliations of daily ticket sales.  
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time, climb stairs, and lift and carry boxes up to 30 pounds.
  • Respect for the confidential and sensitive nature of information in the office.  
  • Expert ability to manage time effectively and plan ahead.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player.

Position Duties

  1. Answer questions about Historic Charleston Foundation, The Charleston Festival annual event, Nathaniel Russell and Aiken-Rhett House Museums, retail locations, and the City of Charleston.
  2. Learn and process customers’ orders in Altru, a web-based, non-profit database program.
  3. Ensure all payments are secured at time of the sales.
  4. Troubleshoot problems as necessary; leave no issues unresolved.
  5. Stock and maintain adequate supplies and informational materials in each ticket office location.
  6. Ensure exceptional and proper customer service protocol.
  7. Follow up on errors with payment and orders.
  8. Distribute tickets for the Charleston Festival.

All members of the staff of Historic Charleston Foundation are called on, from time to time, to support cooperative HCF programs and to assist with projects that may lie outside their primary areas of responsibility.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Proven track record of time-management and attention to detail.
  • Exceptional knowledge of current technology and computer skills.
  • Experience in event sales/ticketing, nonprofits, and databases preferred.

Time Requirements

This is a seasonal, part-time position which ends mid-April 2025. The number of hours may vary weekly, but the ability to work at least 20 hours per week is required. Shifts are between the hours of 8:30 am and 6:00 pm. Some weekend work may be necessary. Dependability to work assigned shifts is a must.

Work Environment

Ticket Office Representatives must have the ability to work in both an office setting and a retail setting.

Pay Rate

$14.00 per hour
