Winslow's Word: September 2024
I don’t know about y’all, but the first wisps of fall offering cooler weather and reduced humidity is such an invigorating time of the year for me. Charleston settles back into a more regular rhythm and people are turning their attention back to home, school, and community.
We have so many exciting things going on at HCF, from archaeology at the Russell House to forensic investigations at the Aiken-Rhett, from advocacy on the Water Plan to support for the public-private partnership at Union Pier, this summer has ended with a bang!
Now we’re transitioning to a busy fall season with many great programs on the horizon. We are thrilled about an upcoming exhibition by local artist David Boatwright called “That’s ALL Folks,” which will be featured at the Aiken-Rhett House between October 5th and November 11th, so please stop by to see this awesome selection of new work.
We have Family Day returning to the Aiken-Rhett House on October 5 and our inaugural Gala and fundraiser on November 7th, which will be a very special evening celebrating preservation and our community. This is the first event of its kind for HCF, and we are excited to activate this historic property and highlight the diverse array of work that we do every day to advance the preservation movement.
Also, our engaged PreserVisionist group has a series of special tours this fall, culminating in the Soirée on November 8th. Also, our Art & Architecture program series kicks off in November and we have an incredible line-up of speakers and excursions extending into 2025 (stay tuned).
Please join us this fall through this broad array of engaging, educational offerings!
