Discoveries from the Kitchen House: Up-close Archaeology with Dr. Andrew Agha

It has been an exciting summer with Dr. Andrew Agha, RPA, at the Nathaniel Russell House Museum! Starting in July and wrapping up mid-October 2024, this phase of the Nathaniel Russell Kitchen House Project produced a plethora of new artifacts that help historians piece together the lives of the enslaved people that once lived at 51 Meeting Street.

Join HCF and Dr. Andrew Agha for an early evening discussion sharing the latest updates adn discoveries from the excavation work this summer. With field work completed and labratory study underway, Dr. Agha will share with guests the wealth of human stories these artifacts tell us. From the rare carnelian bead to the mundane beef bone, Dr. Agha says the Kitchen House cellar is revealing one of the richest caches of artifacts that he and his colleagues in the field have ever seen in Charleston. Learn first-hand the most up-to-date research and information from the Nathaniel Russell House Museum and leave inspired by history uncovered.

Catch up on the work so far on our blog and Instagram.
